Municipal Cooling Centres

Due to the extreme heat, the Lion's Head Arena (4 Tackabury Street) and the Tobermory Community Centre (7420 Highway 6) will be opened as cooling centres until 4:30 p.m. today for residents to cool off.

A cooling centre is an air-conditioned space to temporarily deal with the adverse health effects of extreme heat.

Extreme heat can cause heat-related illnesses such as rashes, cramps, exhaustion, or a stroke. If feeling dizzy, weak, or overheated: move to a cool place, rest sitting or lying down, and drink water. If symptoms persist, seek help immediately.

Seniors and young children are especially at-risk during heat and smog-related weather. Residents are encouraged to call or visit family, friends and neighbours to make sure they are okay, especially isolated adults and seniors, who are at greater risk of suffering from heat-related illness. Please share this information with those who may not receive it through municipal channels.
