Effective Monday, January 2, 2017, curbside waste and recycling collection will occur for the entire Municipality. Waste and recycling will be collected simultaneously by Waste Management of Canada Corporation starting at 8:00 a.m. on Mondays only, including all statutory holidays with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year's Day should they fall on a Monday.

Those residences on private or unmaintained roadways will be required to place their waste and recyclable materials at the nearest intersection of a serviced roadway.

Those residences on a seasonal roadway will be required to place their waste and recyclable materials at the nearest intersection of a serviced roadway during the winter season.

REMINDER:

  • The same truck will collect both waste and recycling. The truck will have two (2) separate compartments.
  • Two (2) waste bag limit - bags cannot weigh more than 22 kg/50 lb each.
  • For waste and recycling not set out properly, a sticker will be placed indicating the reason for no collection.
  • If roads are closed or unsafe for travel due to weather conditions, collection may not be performed. Therefore, please retain your waste and recyclables until the following Monday for collection or visit a Waste Disposal Site.

Missed waste collections are upsetting, but there is usually a reason why material was not collected as expected. To ensure your waste is collected, please ensure it is:

  • in an approved container
  • placed at the curb prior to 8:00 a.m.
  • Not hidden behind a vehicle, snow bank or other obstruction
  • free of prohibited content (any material other than household waste will not be collected)
  • within the limit of two (2) bags
  • within the limit of 22 kg (50 lbs)

Accepted recyclable materials:

  • Glass: clear or coloured jars. Rinse out containers and remove lids.
  • Cardboard: corrugated, box board, boxed beverage containers. No Styrofoam, plastic bag liners or staples.
  • Paper: envelopes, paperbacks, magazines and catalogues, printer and fine paper, newspapers and flyers. No hardcover books.
  • Tin and Plastics: food and beverage containers, pop cans, plastic bottles, tubs and lids, empty aerosol cans, plastic clam shell containers. Plastics # 1-5, 7.

Leaving the Area Prior to Monday's Collection?
If you are unable to place your waste and recyclable materials at the curbside on Monday morning, please consider one (1) of the following options:

  • Purchase or construct a permanent container to store waste and recyclable materials until such a time as they can be collected. Please ensure that containers are equipped with a flagging system to notify the Municipality's Contractor that materials are ready for pick-up.
  • Visit a Waste Disposal Site during regular hours of operation. Residents are permitted to dispose of two (2) bags of waste free of charge. See above for Waste Disposal Sites' locations and hours of operation.
  • Ask a neighbour to place your materials at the curbside on Monday morning.

WASTE DIVERSION
Polystyrene - Styrofoam is accepted free of charge at all three Waste Disposal Sites. The material is to be placed in clear plastic bags, supplied at the Waste Disposal Sites, and placed in the appropriate container where it will be collected for recycling through a program with Grace Canada. Acceptable materials: white molded pieces and cushion packaging (used for packaging electronics and hardware). Non-acceptable materials: food storage containers, coffee cups or small packaging (i.e. peanuts or popcorn). All material must be clean, dry and with limited amounts of tape, paper and no hard-rigid plastics.

Battery Recycling Program - household batteries can be dropped off at the Municipal Office or at any of the three Waste Disposal Sites. The batteries are collected by Raw Materials Company Inc. Single-use batteries (AAAs, AAs, 9-volts, Ds and Cs), Lithium batteries (must be placed in plastic bag or tape on both terminals), button cell batteries and corroded or leaking batteries (must be placed in plastic bag) are all accepted as part of the Program.

Ontario Tire Stewardship - off rim tires are accepted at all three Waste Disposal Sites, free of charge, through the Ontario Tire Stewardship Program. Materials from the tires are reused and recycled into dozens of products, including rubber mulch, playground surfacing and rubber paving. For more information please www.rethinktires.ca.

Ontario Electronic Stewardship - E-Waste is accepted at all three Waste Disposal Sites, free of charge, through the Ontario Electronic Stewardship Program. Electronics are collected and then shipped to a certified e-waste recycling facility. For a list of accepted materials, please visit www.ontarioelectronicstewardship.ca.

Mattresses are accepted at all three Waste Disposal Sites. Fees apply. The mattresses are then shipped to Recyc-Mattresses, a mattress recycling facility in North York, where the mattresses will be cut apart for the purpose of collecting the raw materials found inside. These materials are then sent to various companies to give them a second life.

Yard Composters are available for purchase at the Municipal Office at a cost of $38.00. Click here for more information on composting!
